About

The weekly memo from hackIDLE.

Every Tuesday, a short dispatch on what I shipped, what I read, and what's worth your attention. No filler. No SEO padding. Forward freely.

What's in it

Each issue has four fixed sections, in the same order every week so you can skim by habit:

  1. My projects this week — what I built or shipped at myctrl.tools, grclanker.com, and other hackIDLE repos.
  2. Research notes — the most interesting things I highlighted in Readwise this week: security, compliance engineering, AI coding, the adjacent stuff.
  3. Interesting GitHub repos — three to five repos worth opening in a new tab. Often but not always mine.
  4. Upcoming events & talks — conferences, webinars, and talks I'm attending or speaking at, plus the occasional recommendation for someone else's.

Who writes it

I'm Ethan Troy — I work on cybersecurity research, GRC automation, FedRAMP, OSCAL, and anything at the seam between security engineering and shipping software. The Roll Up is the weekly memo from hackidle.com, my lab for all of the above.

You can find me on GitHub, LinkedIn, or X.

How to read

Pick whatever fits your habits:

  • Email — drops Tuesday mornings via Buttondown. Subscribe here.
  • Web — every issue lives permanently at rollup.hackidle.com/issues/<slug>/. The archive is searchable.
  • RSS — point your reader at /rss.xml.

Colophon

The Roll Up is built with Astro 5, hosted on Vercel, emailed through Buttondown. Typography is Inter and JetBrains Mono (Catppuccin Mocha / Latte). Per-issue OG cards are rendered at build time with satori. The hero video and per-issue cover art are generated via Gemini and Kling using locked prompts so the visual identity stays in the family.

The ambient station plays two original tracks — Purple Circuit Dream and Neon Ghost Memory — written for this site. Click ◉ TUNE IN bottom-right to listen while you read. Skip with the button.
